The owner of the home at 3608 Jefferson has requested a meeting with the Valentine Neighborhood to request our approval to use the home as a short-term rental. Under Kansas City rules, a property owner can ask for a special use permit if that owner does notobtain the approval from 55 percent of adjacent property owners to operate the short-term rental.

After meeting with the neighborhood, the owner will need to appear before the city Plan Commission, which will make a recommendation on whether or not the permit should be issued. That recommendation then goes to the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) which makes the final decision.

At the meeting on April 26 at 6:30 p.m., the property owner, Jordan Grove, will have 10 minutes to present his argument for why the special use permit should be granted. Those VNA members who want to have input into the decision will then discuss the issue and take a vote. Based upon that vote, the neighborhood will testify at the hearings before the Plan Commission and the BZA.

The meeting will be held at Penn Valley at our regular meeting location just before the general meeting on August 26.
