The Valentine Neighborhood Association is committed to supporting development that strengthens our community, reflects our historic character, and enhances the quality of life for all residents. To that end, the Association maintains the following principles:
- No Demolition Without a Plan and Formal Commitment
Demolition of existing structures should not proceed without the presentation of a clear and complete development plan, accompanied by a formal commitment to carrying out that plan. This commitment should provide reasonable assurance that demolition will directly support an approved and viable project—not create unnecessary vacant or underutilized land. - Meaningful Neighborhood Feedback
Resident input must be actively sought and genuinely considered during the planning process. Development is most successful when it reflects the perspectives and priorities of the community it impacts. - Collaborative Development
We believe that developers and neighborhood stakeholders working together produce better, more durable outcomes. Early and ongoing collaboration is essential to building plans that serve both community and project goals. - Preservation of Historic Character
Any development should respect and maintain the historic character of the Valentine neighborhood. New projects should complement the existing architectural and cultural fabric that defines our community. - Adequate Off-Street Parking
Development plans must provide sufficient off-street parking to meet the needs of all residents and minimize strain on neighborhood streets.
Walkable, Engaging Streetscapes
Development projects should promote inviting, pedestrian-friendly streets that encourage walking, neighbor interaction, and active engagement along front yards and street-facing
