38th Street Task Force: Special Meeting
The 38th Street Task Force is inviting all Midtown neighborhood representatives to a special May 13 meeting to discuss issues around Midtown gas stations and convenience stores. The City Council in April banned the sale of “mini” liquor bottles in designated areas of Kansas City. The Mayor sponsored the ordinance designed to curb loitering and other crime around some stores. Midtown was originally included in the designated areas but was later removed.
Assistant City Manager for Public Safety, Lace Cline, has agreed to come to our May meeting to discuss other ways Midtown neighborhoods might address problem businesses like these. Joe Williamson, head of the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force, may also attend. We have extended the invitation to other neighborhoods and neighborhood residents who don’t normally attend our meeting.
The 38th Street Task Force, a joint effort of the Valentine and Old Hyde Park neighborhoods, is made up of businesses, neighborhoods, and residents working to understand and address problems with loitering, lack of housing, and drug activity in Midtown.
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF LOCATION FOR MAY AND JUNE: The meeting will be held on May 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Spirit of Hope Church, 3801 Wyandotte.
