We want your input into two important development issues afecting the future of the Valentine neighborhood.
1. KC Life Plans North of 35th Street
Kansas City Life has notified us they plan to prepare much of the land from 33rd to 35th Street from Southwest Tra<icway to Pennsylvania for redevelopment. The initial steps to demolish about 23 of the properties have been completed. We have not seen a plan for the company’s proposal to build on the land. The neighborhood association has consistently stated we would only support the demolition of any homes once we see a plan for replacing them. We have invited KC Life to this meeting but have not received a response. However, we want all residents to have the opportunity to have their voices heard when it comes to the future of our neighborhood.
Opportunity for input: General Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. MCC-Penn Valley Education Center, room EC004, from 7 to 8 p.m.
2. Good Day Farms, 39th and Summit
A marijuana dispensary called Good Day Farms proposes to demolish the vacant carwash on the south side of W. 39th Street and utilize the former Royal Auto building as a dispensary with a drive-through window. Adjacent neighbors should be receiving a letter notifying them. The new owners are asking for rezoning of the properties (629-631 W. 39th) and were required to hold a public meeting with neighborhood residents. You have two opportunities to get involved: a public meeting where you can hear from the developer and ask questions and a neighborhood meeting where we will take a position on the project.
Opportunity for information and to ask questions: Tuesday, Oct. 22, Q39, 1000 W. 39th Street, drop in 5-7 p.m., presentation 5:45
Opportunity for input into neighborhood position: General Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. MCC-Penn Valley Education Center, room EC004, from 7 to 8 p.m.
